A single, nothing-holding-me-back, independent and adventurous 28 year-old woman with a passion for travel, I have decided to check out of the daily 9-5 grind for a while.  Trading a Brooklyn apartment, pizza by the slice, and a steady paycheck for a hostel dorm room, authentic arepas, and a personal travel blog, I’ll be wandering around South America for 9-12 months.

I suppose it was sometime in early March, not too long after I’d returned from traipsing around China, first with my sister and her boyfriend and then on my own, that I realized that although I had fallen deeply in love with NYC–the meaning of the word “bored” was lost on me– I longed for greater fulfillment and stimulation.  At twenty eight years old, I wasn’t ready to settle down, and I didn’t have time to waste thinking about what I hoped to do someday.  The opportunity was in front of me.  There was no someday.

When I faced the fact that I had no real reason not to up and go (practical planning notwithstanding), I said to hell with two week vacations and booked a flight to Sao Paolo, Brazil. I made arrangements for travel vaccinations, bid on a backpacker’s backpack on Ebay, researched personal travel blogs, which I found both reassuring and inspiring, and started day-dreaming about my upcoming journey to an unfamiliar region.

I got off the treadmill, and now here I am, the pilot of my life, about to embark on my Personal Legend.
